If the why to be owned by a basenji intrigues you more than things to ponder, it might interest you to know a little more about UnderCover Basenjis. One of the questions I get asked most often is: “How did you come up with that name for your basenjis?” When I got my first basenji, one of the suggested names I received was Lady of Camelot. With my interest in history, I chose the name Camelot for my kennel name. I was given three 4-year-old bitches by a young lady named Shannon Smith, and I gave them the name of Camelot. When the bitches were bred, I named my first three litters with the Camelot prefix. My first two basenjis finished with the Camelot name; however, I began to question my use of a kennel name with an English history background with African dogs. I knew that if I were going to make a change, it would have to be done immediately. When pondering the question, I was sitting on my bed, and there were four basenjis curled up “under the covers”, so I became UnderCover Basenjis.
I have been owned by basenjis since 1986 and have loved every minute of the experience. The old girls are gone now but certainly not forgotten. My entire kennel is built on offspring of two of the original tri color girls, Star and B. To learn more about my first escapades with these old girls, make sure you visit the "Foundation Dogs & Bitches" page.
While I am certainly the person most closely associated with UnderCover Basenjis, I could never have achieved the success I enjoy without a host of people helping me. To meet these people and see some of their basenjis from the UnderCover lines, please visit the "Important Family Members" page.
